Marriage License Requirements

If you’re getting married, you’ll need to have a wedding license from the county government. In Illinois, you must marry in the county in which you obtain your license. In Iowa it can come from any county in the state. Here’s the information you’ll need:

• Your mother’s maiden name and the current names and addresses of both of your parents, if living.

• If you have been married before, you will need to know the exact month, day and year of dissolution of marriage, and state and county in which the divorce was granted.

• If you are age 16 or 17, you must present a certified birth certificate, and both of your parents must be present.
